Minneapolis-based author Rod Beemer will give a presentation on his book “Notorious Kansas Bank Heists: Gunslingers to Gangsters” at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Prescott Room at the Salina Public Library, 301 W. Elm.
Beemer’s book details such stories as the 1911 robbery of Chautauqua State Bank; the bizarre story of outlaw Elmer McCurdy’s long-delayed burial; Henry Starr, who claimed to have robbed 21 banks; the Dalton Gang’s failed attempt to rob two banks simultaneously; and the nearly 4,000 vigilantes who patrolled Kansas during the 1920s and 1930s.
An independent writer, researcher and speaker, Beemer has authored numerous books and magazine and newspaper articles. He is a member of the Kansas State Historical Society, Smoky Hill Trail Association, Westerners International and Custer Battlefield Historical & Museum Association.
